What I do
Human-Centred Design and Communications
On this website, I'm showcasing some of my photographs, design and communication solutions.
I take a human centred approach to communications and design - in
some ways a pragmatic one. If it's not usable or understandable, why do it? Processes and systems must have clear, organized patterns that direct and assist us in our interactions with other people, objects and the world around us. Processes are intended to be enabling and civilizing, not frustrating, complex or bureaucratic.
When designing communications and processes we often use something like politicians' "double speak." Politicians seem to be one of the necessities of life. But, do you ever find it difficult to follow their answers to questions? Language is a flexible thing. We can twist it into almost any shape.
We are recognizing that we live in a diverse world. I can presume, "if I write or design this thing from my perspective, most people will
understand it." But we know that isn't necessarily so.
Human-centred design and communications are about identifying and genuinely listening to our audiences, developing things together, in partnership. We can create elegant, responsive and engaging communication solutions when people are in the centre of the picture.
